brief synopsis[]
When Bink, the protagonist, is banished from Xanth for not having a visible talent, he heads out to mundania, only to encounter the evil magician Trent. On his way, he encounters Chameleon, a girl who's intelligence changes with time, as well as several other characters. After several truces of expedience with Trent, Bink eventually comes to see that Trent is no longer evil, and his only evil of old was a lack of honor. When the book closes, Trent is installed as king, and Bink marries Chameleon.
