Dystopia names an imagined society in which there is great suffering or injustice, typically one that is totalitarian or post-apocalyptic. Utopian experiments often result in dystopian societies, both in fiction and the real world. Dystopia often present profound dysfunction, such as extreme inequality, poverty, infertility, injustice or discrimination.
