Mars is the fourth planet from Sol and often identified as the most likely target after the Moon for establishing a permanent extraterrestrial human settlement, as "the best hope for a human race whose figurative eggs have been kept in one basket for far too long."
Mars has a total surface area approximately the same as the land area of the Earth. It has two moons resembling asteroids: Phobos and Deimos.
