Ooloi is the name of the third sex, after female and male, among the extraterrestrial Oankali in Octavia Butler's Xenogenesis trilogy of novels. Members of the third sex are responsible for mediating between females and males and in reading genes for engineering greater genetic diversification. Gabriele Schwab understands Butler's Oankali sexuality to be critique of the ongoing commodification of genetic information.
