Robert A. Heinlein was one of the leading figures of science fiction's Golden Age and one of the authors most responsible for establishing the science fiction novel as legitimate genre. Efforts to achieve scientific accuracy in his writing made him pioneer of the subgenre of hard science fiction. Competence and critical thinking are lauded in his published work but the latter is betrayed by his use of racist, especially anti-Asian, tropes.
