Star Trek: The Next Generation (TNG) was a science fiction series created by Gene Roddenberry as part of the Star Trek. Created 21 years after Star Trek: The Original Series and set in the 24th century from the year 2364 through 2370 or about 100 years after the original series timeframe, the series featured a new crew and a new Starship Enterprise. Patrick Stewart's voice-over introduction during each episode's opening credits stated the starship's purpose (albeit modified from the original series to make it gender-neutral).
