Terraforming (literally, "Earth-forming") of a planet or other celestial body is the process of engineering its atmosphere, temperature range, surface topography and/or ecology to be similar to those of Earth and make it habitable by terrestrial organisms.

A recent Youtube video proposes terraforming the Moon by bombarding the Moon with ice comets. Like most terraforming proposals it fails to seriously consider the problem of paying for what would be a massive public works project.

Arthur C. Clarke's first novel in 1951, The Sands of Mars, describes efforts to terraform the red planet.
